Class of 2020 - Seniors
Letter to Seniors March 2020
Dear Seniors and Families of the Class of 2020, First, we hope that you and your families are safe, healthy, and managing well during these unprecedented times. We were all saddened by the official school closure for the rest of the year. We understand that you feel a sense of loss and never imagined that your senior year would end this way. Truly, we all feel the same loss and are processing and coping through this unprecedented and unexpected health crisis in our country and world. Please know that we miss seeing each of you in our school’s halls, in classes, and at the many athletic and cultural events that Edison hosts for our community. Second, we know that, as seniors, the impact the novel coronavirus has had on your school year is significant. Not being able to finish your last semester with your friends while enjoying the many senior rites of passage is heartbreaking. Furthermore, we know that there are many unanswered questions about how the rest of the year will work for seniors, especially regarding graduation. We want you to know that the questions you have mirror the questions we have. The exigent circumstances created by the coronavirus pandemic have changed everything across the state and nation, especially when it comes to schools and students. As such, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are weighing many factors, including those around graduation requirements, full-year grades, and the logistics of distance learning. You may wonder why you have not received a lot of communication concerning seniors. Honestly, we have not been given information, have the same questions that you have, and are awaiting further instructions from FCPS Leadership, which includes the Superintendent and the School Board. Moving forward, we promise to update you as soon as we have information from FCPS leadership. Certainly, for student-specific questions, please contact your counselor, your assistant principal, or the senior administrator, Mr. Cohen. The next couple of months are unchartered territory for all of us; there is no script to follow and certainly a time that none of us will soon forget. Please know that we are dedicated to making this time as positive as possible. As updates to the Class of 2020 page are made, please look for posts that encourage seniors to participate, respond, and collaborate...things we can do to unify our class and create unique memories while social distancing. We miss you all. Stay safe and healthy. Pamela Ellison Brumfield Principal
