Students must arrive by 6:30 p.m. Students will proceed out of the Eagle Bank Arena using the North Tunnel. Parents and students should meet at the North Entrance.  Please make exit arrangements with family prior to graduation since the Eagle Bank Arena will be clearing the parking lot quickly.

Caps, Gowns, and Graduation - All financial obligations must be paid by June 7th in order to be issued a cap and gown.  They will be issued after graduation practice on Friday June 7th. If you do not pass your classes and pay your obligations, you will not be allowed to participate in graduation.  It is your responsibility to check with Ms. Angela Pilcher in the finance office (703- 924-8015) to see if you owe money. If you have not ordered your cap and gown, please go to sub school 2 to fill out an order form.

Accessible Seating – The main entries are wheelchair accessible; there are no steps or elevators to negotiate. Accessible parking is available outside the South Entry and a drop-off area is available at the West Entry. Special seating for handicapped individuals is available.  You may request this seating from the ushers when you enter the center.  If you have special needs beyond this, please let Heather Brueggen (hlbrueggen@fcps.edu), graduation coordinator; know in writing before May 25.

Transportation and Parking - All students, families and guests are responsible for their own transportation to the Eagle Bank Arena.  Parking can be limited so please carpool when possible. Parking will be handled by the Eagle Bank Arena traffic marshals and is available in a first-come, first-served basis. For directions or parking information, please visit the George Mason University visitor website: http://www.gmu.edu/resources/visitors/.

What Graduates Are to Wear - Graduates and visitors are expected to dress appropriately and behave respectfully.  Dress for girls: plain colored dress (not short), skirt (not short) and blouse or nice pants suit with dress shoes.  Dress for boys: dark dress slacks (no jeans or shorts), light colored dress shirt and tie with dark dress shoes.  Absolutely no jeans, shorts, tennis shoes or flip flops for anyone! Students are to dress appropriately -- If a student is not dressed appropriately or displays inappropriate behavior, he/she will be removed from the ceremony and will not be allowed to walk across the stage.

Prohibited Items -The following are prohibited in the Eagle Bank Arena:

  • Noise makers of any kind
  • Helium balloons, beach balls, silly string, bubbles and any other material which can be thrown and/or projected inside
  • Decorations and/or alterations of cap or gown. Decorated caps will be confiscated.

Violation of these rules could result in your removal from the center by GMU security even if you have not received your diploma.  If you do not receive your diploma at graduation, then you need to schedule an appointment to pick it up at Edison the following week.

Students will not be able to have cell phones or any electronic devices with them.  The security team will be checking students before graduation begins and will confiscate any items that violate the Eagle Bank Arena rules.

Behavior Expectations - We need to respect and honor the rules and expectations of the Eagle Bank Arena. Graduation is a dignified ceremony to recognize your accomplishments and to present you to the public as enlightened citizens. Be respectful of the ceremony and the speakers. Hopefully, this will set the stage for future goals and accomplishments. Graduation is a time to be honored; celebrations should come later with family and/or at graduation parties.

Photography - Individual pictures of graduates receiving their diplomas will be taken by Life Touch. You will receive a post card in the mail from Lifetouch to the parent/guardian with options to purchase a graduation hand shake picture of your student. Additional information and access to commencement images may be obtained by visiting http://events.lifetouch.com.
