The training for the Student Ambassadors happened Wednesday 2/5. The trainers from Fort Belvoir were blown away with our students, and their great ideas about how to help new students to Edison. The Garrison Commander came to present each student with their training certificate and a military coin. All 63 students completed the training, and are excited about the impact they will have on the Edison community.

For National Counselor Appreciation Week 2020 the Edison administration team celebrated with a special lunch. The school counseling staff were invited to participate in a fun morning of food, games and celebration!

JROTC News
Junior Sara Rosales, who is in her second year with our JROTC program, entered an essay contest sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) organization. She was selected for third place for our region, which includes Prince William and Arlington Counties, City of Alexandria and Washington, DC. Sara was awarded a coveted SAR medal and cash prize.

World Languages is celebrating Chinese New Year this week – Chinese classes and Chinese Culture Club have decorated the D hallway with lanterns and Spring Couplets. Please also visit our photo booth at the intersection between C hallway and D hallway. Everyone is welcome to visit and learn about Chinese New Year traditions. We wish everyone a happy year of rat! Gōng xǐ fā cái(Happiness and prosperity)!

Congratulations to Mr. Pandin and the Scholastic Bowl team who won the District Championship! The team had a great tournament and finished 3rd in the Region!

Olivia Bayolo has won a Gold Key Award in the Scholastic Regional Art Competition. Her sculpture, entitled “Deforestation,” will now be exhibited with other Gold and Silver Key winners in FCPS. The winner will be announced later this spring.

Last Friday evening, 17 different acts competed against each other in our yearly Edison’s Got Talent show. Coming in first place was Sophia Pelekasis, who sang the Puccini aria “O Mio Babbino Caro”; second place was Amen Adib for an original Spoken Word Presentation; and third place went to Joanna Madamba, who wrote, played, and sang an original song.

EHS Band members competed last weekend for a spot in the District Band. The following students were chosen to represent us:

Special congratulations go to Kevin Haes and Andrew Islas, who both have qualified to audition for the All-Virginia State Band.

The Forensics team competed at the regional VHSL competition on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Congratulations to Dimitrios Owen for placing 2nd in Humorous Interpretation and Marcus Kohm for placing 3rd in Extemporaneous. They advance to the super-regionals held in February.

The Thomas A. Edison Model UN (TAEMUN) club participated in the Chantilly High School’s MUN conference on January 10 and 11, 2020. Students practiced, debated and had fun during the Chantilly MUN conference. Many awards were presented to our TAEMUNers, including the Secretary-General’s Award for Best Small Delegation.
