Thomas A. Edison High School Named Recognized by the Virginia Board of Education
We have been recognized for high student achievement or continuous improvement by the Virginia Board of Education. This award is based on performance and practice during 2018-19 and prior years. We were honored based on the following criteria:
• A 10-point increase in the combined rate in reading and math, and in the pass rate in science;
• A 10-point increase in the combined rate in reading and math for two or more student groups across three years;
• A decrease in the chronic absenteeism rate for three years; or
• For schools with a graduating class, an increase in the Graduation and Completion Index and a decrease in the dropout rate for three years.
We appreciate that the support of our Edison families to their children’s education is critically important in reaching this milestone.

February 18, 2022
During the second week in February, the science department hosted our Science Fair. In a span of four days, two hundred sixty-two projects from twenty-four classes were judged by twenty-one science teachers and one counselor. The effort of five hundred thirty-seven students to demonstrate how the world of science works was demonstrated through research, observations, and experimentation.
Seventy-five projects received awards and twenty-two projects were selected to compete at Regional Science and Engineering Fair, which will take place virtually, in March 18-20, 2022.
The energy, creativity, and innovation of students’ minds, along with continued guidance from their science teachers made this event very successful. Thanks to an outstanding organization of the event, provided by the Science Fair Directors, Ms. Debbie Meinholdt and Dr. Michele Fontana, and the close collaboration of the whole Science Department, science fair was a real celebration of scientific investigation.
